Chainrings
explained, modern good quality chainrings have
5 or 4 fixing bolts their sizes are stated with a
BCD (bolt circle diameter) measurement. This is the diameter of
the circle around and through the centre of the bolt holes.
Sometimes this measurement is also referred to as the PCD
(pitch circle diameter) just to confuse people. Chainrings are made
of different metals. Steel which is hard wearing but
heavy, Dural aluminium which is lighter. Zicral
aluminium rings are also light, harder and more expensive than Dural
rings, they usually also have a highly polished finish,
ramps and lowered teeth profiles to assist the front change. |
